Simi Valley, CA ? January 20, 2012 ? Citing team racing theories, consistency and a positive image, GenRight Off Road?s President Tony Pellegrino announces their sponsorship of Race Prep Racing for the 2012 Ultra4 Racing Season.  ?Having GenRight on board really validates our team?s efforts and accomplishments last year.  GenRight represents talent, hard work and passion in business and racing.  Having them sponsor us in 2012 is an honor,? driver Richie Carter said of the arrangement.

In addition to manufacturer and race team, GenRight Off Road is also the Official Suspension of the 2012 King of the Hammers, a title they have held for three years now.  The company, located in Simi Valley, California, has been a pioneer in the off road aftermarket parts field, starting with their Crawler ? Gas Tank several years ago.  GenRight continues to revolutionize this market with innovative suspension design, steering options, and sleek body armor.  GenRight consistently produces superior products so getting behind a consistent racing team like Race Prep Racing is a comfortable fit.

Richie drove his team to an 11th place finish overall last season out of 182 registered racers.   Pretty good for privateers.  This husband and wife team ran their rookie season in 2011 with one goal: finish.  And it worked!  Their goal in 2012 is to finish better, which sponsors like GenRight will help them accomplish.  ?I?m looking to be involved with solid performers.  I like Richie?s consistency.  I think that approach is a great foundation to build on as a racer.  I think the experience we gained together racing KOH [together in 2010] was solid and now I can help Race Prep Racing with parts and vehicle prep.  Having a teammate out there to pre-run and on race day is invaluable,? said Mr. Pellegrino when asked about the partnership.

Stay tuned for more updates on these teammates as they race this year.  Both parties see this as a great opportunity to better last year?s results and they are looking forward to the 2012 race season.  Richie, Kristen and Race Prep Racing will represent GenRight Off Road, along with their other sponsors, at the King of the Hammers, Glen Helen Grand Prix, Vegas to Reno, and The American RockSports Challenge.

Tomac in Los Angeles - Winner and Red Plate Owner

GEICO Honda rider Eli Tomac rode to a convincing victory last Saturday night at venerable Dodger Stadium to surge into the Supercross Lites West points lead for the first time in his young career. Staring from Gate 3, Tomac took the holeshot and never looked back, quickly building a lead of several seconds that he held throughout the 15-lap main event.

Combined with a third-place finish in Anaheim and a fourth-place result in Phoenix, Tomac moved from fourth to first in the championship standings and now sits one point ahead of Dean Wilson. "It's always nice to be in the front, whether it's in a race or the points," Tomac said. "Tonight we got both, so I'm happy. I'm comfortable in the lead.

"I've been riding well all year. I had fast lap of the first two main events but my starts weren't there. That's what I've been working on this past week. "It started off as a stressful day because we only had the one practice session and we had to learn the track in those 12 minutes. I was second there, which gave me a good gate pick for the heat race. Then I had a good start but overshot the first turn and gave up the lead. But I learned something there and it definitely helped in the main because in that same spot I let off for a second and was able to sneak underneath everyone. Once I got out front I just checked out. I was totally focused."

Team member Brian Kranz was named Mechanic of the Race, worth $500 from MMI. Kranz serves as mechanic of Tomac's CRF250. The Supercross main event was red-flagged when Trey Canard, a former rider on the GEICO Honda team, was landed on by another rider.

The scary incident forced officials to stop the race for several minutes while Canard was tended to by the medical staff. On the restart, a rattled Windham was bunched up in the middle of the pack where he rode for the rest of the night, finally finishing ninth overall.

"Trey's crash really affected me," Windham admitted. "I saw the whole thing and it was really bad. It happened right in front of me. Thank God he's alright. "It ruined my night. I thought about him the whole race. Of course, at that point we didn't know his condition. Trey is one of the best kids I've ever been around and I couldn't think of anything else. I didn't even want to ride but we made it through and got some points. I'm just glad the night is over and Trey's okay."

Fill-in rider Gavin Faith finished a lap down in the Lites main, ranking 18th on the night. Faith earned the final transfer spot into the main during a hard-fought LCQ battle. He missed qualifying in his heat race by one spot.

GEICO Honda's Hahn fractures hip, will miss 3-6 weeks of 2012 Supercross Season

Bad luck reared its head and bit GEICO Honda's Wil Hahn for the second consecutive year.

Following a 2011 beset by injury, Hahn will now miss three to six weeks of the 2012 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Lites West season after fracturing his right hip during training on Wednesday at the Honda practice facility in Corona, Calif.

"I'm just shocked, numbed," Hahn said. "I was training this week at the Honda track and things were going great. I went over a step up, landed awkwardly, fell over and landed hard on my right side. I felt sore when I got up. I went to the doctor and X-rays showed something was wrong. I went to a specialist on Thursday and he said my hip was cracked. Now I have to sit again. I can't believe it. I'm not even bummed. I'm beyond that."

OTSFF Sports Signs Richard Grey For 2012 MX Season

From OTSFF

OTSFF Sports Marketing Group is pleased to announce the signing of Richard Grey to their 2012 CMRC Nationals motocross team.

The seven-time Canadian National Amateur Champion will join the team as Bobby Kiniry?s new teammate. Grey will campaign the MX2 class while Kiniry returns for his third season in the MX1 class, OTSFF?s Andre Laurin said.

?We?re excited to have Richard join our team because we believe he is at the forefront of a new generation of up-and-coming Canadian pro riders,? Laurin said. ?We?ve kept an eye on him for the past couple of years and have been impressed by his results as well as his professionalism on and off the track.?

Despite campaigning only the eastern leg of the MX2 Nationals in 2011, Grey garnered an 18th place ranking, with his best result being recorded at the final round of the season in Walton. On the strength of 9-3 motos, Grey hammered down third overall in the nearly impossible racing conditions on the rain and mud soaked Walton Raceway track.

The 18-year-old Keswick, ON native, who turned pro this year, has also won a truckload of Ontario Provincial Championships as well as placing top-five, including two moto wins, at Loretta Lynn?s in the U.S.

?I?m super pumped to be joining the OTSFF program and super excited to get the 2012 season going,? Grey said. ?This being my first major team, it?s a huge step for me to be taking and I know I?m in for a huge learning experience. I also know that I?m going to have to put all my effort forth to confirm the confidence Andre has shown in me.?

Hands On Skills Mean Greater Choice and Freedom to Buy Used

Get out those wrenchesGiven all of our recent talk about hands on skills and the positive reception it has among readers here, think about another real benefit the hands off crowd might not consider, the freedom to buy used. Take a minute to check out the motorcycles for sale. Look through those listings for a few minutes, how many are really out of consideration if you don't do your own work? If you need a knowledgeable mechanic you can trust to fix and maintain your bike and there's none nearby, you might as well write off almost any vintage model. Those good looking BSAs, Nortons, all vintage British bikes really, forget it. Even early models of some current brands would be questionable, along with recent models of bikes not sold anywhere near you. If all you can do is pay for service instead of doing it yourself, you eliminate many potential choices.

In a world where everyone is supposed to be able to buy whatever they want or need, many often don't consider the narrowing of choices a lack of skills creates. Even if you buy it new, if it breaks and no one is around to repair it, you replace it or do without. (Whether it's designed to be repairable is an issue for another day.)

If you want to buy a new Triumph, Moto Guzzi, Ducati or even a BMW, the dealers are spread a lot thinner than they are for Harley and Honda. If you go the distance and buy new, who does the required service if you can't? Another long trip, time and again and pretty quickly you cross those off your list. With this economy, those dealers are getting spread even thinner and the lack of DIY skills makes it tougher for those brands to hang on to territory if everyone needs dealer service for every oil change or valve adjustment.

With the impressive reliability of a lot of current new motorcycles, some non DIY owners might take a chance and buy from a distant dealer anyway, but it doesn't take overwhelming skill and years of experience to get to the level of basic maintenance and for the effort necessary to learn, the reward of so many more potential choices is a strong incentive to get familiar with a tool box.

JDR/J-Star/KTM?s Moss Breaks Top Ten at Los Angeles Supercross

Los Angeles, CA (January 22, 2012) ? JDR/ J-Star/KTM Team rider Matt Moss earned his season best finish at the third round of the AMA West Supercross Lites Series with an 8th place result at Dodger Stadium.

Moss, who finished 15th at the opening round and missed qualifying at the second round, arrived to the Los Angeles-based stadium ready to put his JDR/J-Star backed KTM machine into the main event.

Heavy rainfall the night before the event forced the track crew to keep the track covered until the early afternoon. It also reduced the amount of practice to just one session for all riders. Moss made the most of his practice session and was able to qualify 9th fastest to earn a good gate pick in his heat.

Moss struggled with a poor start in his heat but was able to quickly charge forward to put his KTM into qualifying position. He moved into 7th place and maintained that position throughout the six lap heat to easily transfer to the main event.

As the gate dropped for the main event, Moss had a great jump off the start but was too far to the outside as they neared the first corner and was pushed out into a first turn crash with Cole Seely. Both riders were slow to get up and remounted in last position. Moss quickly went to work to pick off all possible positions and gain points.

By the third lap he had already passed four riders and was sitting in 15th. Two laps later he knocked off another rider to step up to 14th. At the halfway point he put a clean pass on Billy Laninovich to move into the top ten. Two laps later he moved to 9th when Marvin Musquin crashed out. Still full of energy he continued to drive forward and was able to make a last lap pass on Martin Davalos to move up to 8th. His result was his best of the season and a great starting ground for what?s to come of this Australian Champion.

?My goal is to definitely finish in the top five,? remarked Moss. ?I?ve been struggling with my starts the past three rounds. I am going to work on improving in that area and then I think a top five finish will be within my reach.?

Missing from the racing action was Moss? teammate Ryan Marmont. The young Aussie rider suffered a practice crash this past Tuesday that resulted in a concussion and caused him to sit out this weekend. Marmont will return to his doctor this week to see if he can be released in time for the Oakland Supercross event.
The JDR/J-Star/KTM Team will now begin preparation for the fourth round of the AMA West Supercross Lites Series to be held in Oakland, CA next Saturday, January 28, 2012.

2012 MotoGP Prep

Next week, the 2012 MotoGP season official gets underway with the first testing period that will run three days from Jan. 31 to Feb. 2 in Sepang.

This year, the pre-season testing periods will be of utmost imporance to teams as they depart the 800cc era and prepare for the 1000cc era of prototypes.

For 2012, there will be 12 factory riders on the track, joined by nine CRT (Claiming Rules Team) pilots. Following is the test schedule, along with a brief team preview from MotoGP.

2012 MotoGP Pre-Season Testing Schedule:

  • Sepang 1 MotoGP, Jan. 31 through Feb. 2
  • Valencia Moto2/Moto3, Feb. 8 through Feb. 10
  • Jerez 1 Moto2/Moto3, Feb. 16 through Feb. 18
  • Sepang 2 MotoGP, February 28 through March
  • Jerez 2 Moto2/Moto3, March 19 through March 21
  • Sepang 2 MotoGP, March 23 through March 25

Following is from a press release from MotoGP:

The key factory teams will see their riders' line-up unchanged, with Casey Stoner set to defend his World Title alongside Repsol Honda team-mate Dani Pedrosa; the Yamaha Factory team will again be represented by Jorge Lorenzo and Ben Spies, while Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will be hard at work with the Ducati team in order to push the Italian outfit at the front of the MotoGP pack.

The off-season saw some major migrations including that of Andrea Dovizioso, who will make his debut on a Yamaha with Tech3 alongside Cal Crutchlow, and Alvaro Bautista, who will spearhead the Honda Gresini team effort. Hector Barbera will now be the sole rider of the Pramac Racing Team while Karel Abraham will continue his career with Cardion AB Racing Team.

Colin Edwards and Randy de Puniet joined the ranks of Forward Racing and Aspar Team respectively, for which they will ride the new CRT-spec machines. With the new CRT entries, a total of 21 riders will form the MotoGP grid this year, giving newcomers such as Danilo Petrucci, Ivan Silva, Michele Pirro and Yonny Hernandez a chance to shine in the premier class, and also a path back into MotoGP for the likes of Anthony West, Aleix Espargaro and James Ellison.

Another noteworthy entry is 2011 Moto2 World Champion Stefan Bradl, who will join the LCR Honda team as he graduates into the MotoGP class.

The next two months will also have riders from the lower classes getting into gear as the Valencia and Jerez circuits will host testing sessions for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes.

The Moto2 class promises to be as entertaining and unpredictable as ever, with favourites such as Marc Marquez, Andrea Iannone and Scott Redding facing 125 World Champion Nico Terol and his runner-up Johann Zarco, in addition to the inaugural Moto2 World Champion, Toni Elias, who is set to make his return to the category that saw him take the crown in 2010.

Pre-season testing will be particularly important for the Moto3 class contestants as the new 4-stroke 250cc bikes replace the old 2-stroke 125cc motorcycles. It will be interesting to see how the likes of Maverick Viñales, Sandro Cortese and Hector Faubel will fare on the brand new machinery.
